Fox Barbel Special Rod by Andy O'Shaughnessey

The Barbel Special is one of a range of Barbel rods by Fox.

It is made from a progressive, powerful, two piece 1.5lb Hi-modulus blank.

Finished in a pleasing green colour with contrasting green whippings, the overall finish is of a very high standard.

The reel seat is a very slim Fuji DPS type, making a very smooth interface to the reel. Both my fixed spool Okuma and centerpin reels fit firmly.

The slim full cork handle makes for a well balanced combo.

The single leg Fuji rings are all lined, making it suitable for both mono and braided mainlines.

There is a very neat hinged keeper ring for convenience when roving swims.

Two tops are provided, the standard Avon being ideal for touch ledgering or rolling large baits, and also trotting those near bank swims. The carbon quiver top, rated at 3.5oz, gives added sensitivity whilst ledgering in both up and downstream presentations.

The rod has ample power for casting weights to 4oz, Feeders, P.V.A. socks etc., whatever top is chosen.

This rod was chosen after much discussion with other Barbel anglers. For me its simply superb.

In use I find this rod ideal for most conditions, certainly, for the Kennet and Windrush, its perfect. It is strong enough to bully fish away from cover, due to that though action, yet sensitive enough to detect even slight indications when Barbel either mouth the bait or brush the line.

So in summary:

• High modulus carbon blank.
• 1.5lb test curve.
• Available in a 12' or 11' lengths.
• Powerful, progressive action.
• Fuji DPS 16mm reel seat.
• Fuji lined rings.
• Suitable for braided or monofilament reel lines between 4-10lb.
• Supplied with fixed Avon top and Quiver top rated at 3.5oz.
